10-46 Stainless Flatwound Guitar String Set

After listening to Mark Speer from Khruangbin playing flats on his Strat, I thought I'd give it a try. I have a Jeff Beck Strat with noiseless pickups, with the trem bridge set to a slight float. I normally use 10 gauge round wounds, so I went for Curt's 10 gauge flats. Wow ... do these feel nice under the fingers. The three flatwound strings (E,A,D) sounded a little dull and thuddy with the heavy 1.14mm pick I normally use, so I tried using a .73 medium pick (a Pat Metheny trick). This completely changed the tone, as the woodiness of the bass strings now comes out clearly. All strings sound really smooth and balanced. A couple of minor intonation tweaks on the bass strings, and I'm good to go. If you haven't experimented with flats on an electric, give this set a try. Flats sound great with distortion and other effects, and give you the best of both worlds with stinging bite on the top and smooth woody tones on the lower end.

First time buyer of Flatwound Stainless 10-46. I have been a longtime user of D’addario Chromes, but switched to these for my Heritage H555. These seem to have less tension, better tone quality and nicer feel. So far I am impressed.

Unlike most flat wound strings these have very crisp tone and are not stiff, great action just like your regular wound strings.
