Listen to recorded samples of guitar strings wound with different alloys including nickel-plated steel (aka nickelwound), pure nickel, stainless steel, Monel, phosphor bronze and 80/20 bronze with hex core wires and round core wires along with non-coated and coated versions.

The acoustic sound samples of strings were recorded with two large diameter condenser microphones running through two SSL Alpha channel strips with flat EQ.

The three single coil pickups on the K-Line guitar and the two humbucking Collings City Limits were both ran through the clean channel of a Red-Plate amplifier set with flat EQ. We used the same stereo microphone set up as we used on the acoustic sound samples.

We tried to record each sound bite with the microphones in the same position and we tried using the same picking technique with the same amount of attack.

It is recommended that you use quality ear buds or headsets for optimum audio reference when listening.
