Pure Nickel wound strings were used exclusively on most guitars built in Fifties and most of the Sixties. Pure Nickel has a slightly warmer tone than nickel-plated steel and is preferred by many blues artists.
Pure Nickel Wound strings are created by wrapping Pure Nickel alloys around a hex-shaped core wire which is made from tin-plated high-carbon steel (same as plain strings, but hex-shaped).

Amazing tone and feel
Having played guitar for longer than I want to admit, I've become somewhat of snob when it comes to my instruments and how they are set up. Naturally, searching for strings is a large part of the equation. I used to buy whatever was available at the best price but began to realize that the phrase "you get what you pay for" may apply. I've also come to appreciate the improved tone of pure nickel strings. I read about Mangan strings on a website when searching for strings that come in half gauges. I bought this set and was knocked out by the feel, quality and tone. I have subsequently ordered 0.010 and 0.011 sets for my other electrics. It is inspiring to find an American company that puts customer service and quality above all. I don't think I'll ever buy a different brand of string again.
Maybe a bit premature, but WOW!
Just strung these on my Tele. I haven't plugged it in yet, but these strings feel and sound like heaven. They are so smooth and effortless to play as the accentuate the warmer overtones of the guitar. I have tried all the usual suspects, but these strings are perfect. Well worth the few extra dollars.
