Curt Mangan 9.5-46 Electric Guitar Nickel Wound Half Size Set.
Gauges: 9.5-11.5-16-26-36-46
String Length: 43 inches

Nickel-Plated Steel wound strings were introduced in the late Sixties and have become the most popular alloy for electric guitars and bass. Nickel-plated steel tends to offer the most balanced tone.

Nickel Wound strings are created by wrapping Nickel-Plated Steel alloys around a hex-shaped core wire which is made from tin-plated high-carbon steel (same as plain strings, but hex-shaped). The “core-to-wrap” ratio is the combined diameters of the core wire and the wrap wire which creates the overall diameter of the string.

9.5 - 46 strings

This is the first time I've tried Curt Mangan strings. I've been looking for this particular gauge combination for a while. I put these on my LP Custom w/Bigsby. I like the feel and they seem to hold tune well. They don't seem to stretch as much as other strings I have used; this may be a coincidence due to the weather but it pleases me. I will be trying these on my ES-355 next .

I am one of those cats who finds 9's too slinky and 10's too stiff. I usually use Elixir because I have acidic hands and wipe out uncoateds quick. So I'm trying these and so far excellent! In fact, I was worried something had changed in my 1977 Les Paul because there was a strange "buzzy" sound starting up which, thankfully seems to have disappeared after loading these up. I am the original owner of the guitar, so I think I know when it sounds different unamplified. I recently had the set-up (with fret polishing) and that weird sound appeared. Freaked me out. No difference electrified, but now that weird sound is gone. I don't know if I'll ever know the answer, but these strings are wonderful so far and the intonation is as good as the 10's. We all know heavier strings improve intonation but at 66.8 years old my hands are not as strong as they were even 5 years ago and I play fingerstyle so these worked out nicely. In addition, I called Curt and he spent almost an hour on the phone with me talking gear. Cool guy with tons o' tricks.

Absolutely killer strings. I was using Stringjoy’s but recently retired and $11.90 per set was no longer in my budget. I have to say I like these strings better and I can now get the same gauge strings 2 sets for the price of one vs. Stringjoy’s. These strings have more clarity, punch, and sustain!! A+++++

So I had an issue with my first and only set of Curt strings. I reviewed accordingly. Their customer service is so good, they actually contacted me to figure out what went wrong, and make the situation better next time. Needless to say, I order another set and they have been great. Wonderful strings. This is the type of company you stand behind.

After 24 years, have I found "my" strings?

I'm going to be honest here. I just put my first set of Curt Mangan strings on today. Right out of the envelope I could feel quality. Feels like a set of Slinks but with more uniformity; it is hard to describe. I chose the 9.5 set because 10s have always been to heavy for me and 9s weren't enough. I'm so happy to see this size and immediately knew when I strung up my beater Strat that this was the set for me... at least sizewise. Unplugged they are much louder than my old faithful brand. Maybe because of the slight gauge change, maybe from better materials IDK but they are definitely louder, my wife noticed too. If these hold up to my normal abuse I may have found my new go-to brand. So far, I'm impressed. Good price, good product. Can't beat that.

Really like the clarity and punch of the low strings. Not to bright, but bright enough to give humbuckers a nice twang. The 9.5 doesn't feel much different than a 10 to me. I'll probably just buy a regular set of 10's next time and switch out the first string to a 9. They tune up well and intonation is great.

Perfect gauge for me!

9.5-46 is perfect. I started out on 11s 40 years ago. My hands couldn't take it any more so I switched to 10s, which always felt unbalanced to me. 9s were way to skinny. Also, even if I switch gauges in the future, I will not switch brands again. They sound and feel great, and last as long as some of the coated brands I have tried.

Beef up that Strat!

I always took strings for granted, buying whatever was on sale etc. without giving them much thought. Well, these strings are absolute game changers. The perfect gauge for me. The sound, feel, balance, everything is waaaay superior to any other brand I've used. Also, very affordable!

Best electric strings out there

I only use Mangan's and D'Addario strings on my guitars. Too many other brands lose their tone quickly or unravel at the ball end. Mangan's are one of the only strings I trust to have good tone, smooth silky feel, and to not break unless I'm snipping them with a wire cutter!

Great product from great company

I have been playing for approx ten years on and off. I am no pro but am a tone junkie. I have been using strings from other manufacturer for year but found this company through Matt Schofield (love his style and TONE!!). As I said, I am no pro but I can tell there are noticeable differences. I love the feel of the strings and they have a great tone and sustain. These settle quickly and stay in tune. I have not used these string long enough to comment on their durability but Mr Schofield said his CM strings never failed :) Besides the quality and great price, they shipping my item in no time for free!! I am a life long customer here. Thank you for producing such great product for us. Best regards,
